Matthew 28:16-20

16Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

“But Some Doubted…”

These are some of my favorite words in this last breath of Matthew’s Gospel.

If some who were there, who actually witnessed the resurrection, and who gathered on that mountain to hear Jesus’ final instructions to them actually doubted, this leaves room for all the rest of us as well.

“But some doubted…”

I love these words because they are tucked into one of the most impactful passages for the church; Jesus final instructions.  To “Go and Make Disciples” literally guides everything we do in the church.  It is all to easy to simply jump over those three words and focus on command and the comfort “I am with you always.”

“But some doubted…”

Friends, we are embarking on a great and wonderful journey of discovery as we try to figure out what it means for us to live into both the mission and our new vision. Some of the people in our church have been working on this for a year and they can see it clearly.  They can claim it and they are excited about it.  For others, you are still trying to figure out what discipleship means for yourself, much less for the church. As we embark on this new adventure, I just want to encourage everyone to make space for those who have doubt, who have questions, who are a little unsure about all of this.

And in the midst of this dance between faith and doubt, I am grateful that Matthew gives us a firm foundation by naming what matters most; to make disciples.  I am grateful that Matthew names the truth that everyone was all together on that mountain. Both those whose faith was firm and those who struggled. For if we are truthful, that is all of us at one time or another.  And whether we are convicted in faith or we doubt; it does not matter, because we are all God’s people who have been called to more.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Suzanne

What does it look like to follow God in a new way to a new place? This is a questions we will consider on Sunday as we begin to share the new vision that God have given us for Eureka UMC.  Fortunately for us, this is not the first time this question has been asked. We will be exploring the journey of the early Israelites as they made their crossing through the Jordan River and into the promised land. Pastor Tim will be preaching from Joshua 3 on Sunday, and considering some biblical wisdom and insight regarding this important question. We'd love for you to join us on Sunday morning as we begin this exciting journey!

We gather for two distinct expressions of worship on Sunday mornings at our 8:30 am and 9:45 am worship services

Our JAM (Jesus and Me) Children's Ministry meets at 9:45 am for children ages 3 years old through the fifth grade. Childcare is available for children birth through 2 years old in our nursery during both worship service times on Sunday mornings

Coat and Purse Drive!.png

Purse and Coat Drive

Jan. 13 - Feb. 3, EUMC is  hosting two drives for donations of gently used items —- coats and purses!  Please ensure donations are in good working condition.   No tears or broken zippers.

With winter upon us, look through closets and drawers for coats that are collecting dust or have been outgrown so we can get them to families who need them to stay warm!  Hats, scarves and gloves will be accepted as well.

Gently used purses will go a long way towards giving dignity and support to some women who don’t own any. We don’t want moms having to use coat pockets or plastic grocery bags to carry personal items. We can do better than that!

Please place your donated items in the labeled boxes in the Commons Area at EUMC. All items will go to families in need via the St. Louis Crisis Nursery.
