Have you ever hit the pause button in your life, did a quick assessment, and thought to yourself, "did I forget something?"
If you've been connected to Eureka UMC for a year or longer, you may be asking a similar question, 'did we forget something?"
For the past several decades, Eureka UMC, along with thousands of other churches around the country, have historically spent the month of November engaged in a generosity (or stewardship) campaign. This would often include a several letters from the pastor about giving, a sermon series about generosity, and the opportunity to complete a pledge card towards your financial commitment towards the ministries of Eureka UMC for the upcoming year. Based on the pledges, our church leadership would establish the budget for the upcoming year. So did we forget something this November?
Nope! We are simply approaching this important area of our faith a little differently this Winter. This begs the question, "why?"
We are in the process of (metaphorically) rearranging the seats on the bus. We are moving the budget out of the driver's seat and instead moving Vision to it's rightful place; in the driver's seat. The budget will still be on the bus, along with our Mission (to make new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world), our new core values, and the new strategies to fulfill the new Vision to accomplish the Mission. Simply stated, the budget will not limit the Vision of what God has called us to do. Our new, unique, God given Vision will guide us as we establish the budget so that we can be successful with the Mission given to us by Jesus and continue to advance God's Kingdom.
During the next few months, we will be operating on a 'bridge budget'...this will help us continue into February as we begin to reveal this amazing, new Vision that our Vision Team has discerned over the past 10 months. If you made a pledge (a financial commitment) to the life changing ministries through Eureka UMC for 2018, we thank you! We encourage you to fulfill your commitment and to continue that level of financial commitment into the New Year. Beginning on January 26th, we will begin the exciting journey of sharing this compelling new Vision with the congregation and our community. Our 2019 generosity campaign will run concurrent with the Vision reveal.
Grace and peace,
When you arrive on Sunday morning, or at any other time during the week, we want to encourage you to take a selfie, a family photo, or a group photo each week at the stable in our Commons Area. This Sunday, we are calling it the "Stable of Joy". Capture a photo, post it on social media, 'check in' to Eureka UMC, and add a description if you'd like, and finally use this week's hashtag; #JesusIsJoy. Let's flood our community with amazing images of our families and spread the message of JOY! It was great to see DOZENS of your photos flooding social media this past week!
We will continue this through out the month of December. We thank you in advance of being part of this fun way to share your faith!

December 30 "The Wonder Years"
Have you ever wondered what Jesus' life was like during his 'middle school' years? We will explore a unique passage from Luke 2 that gives us the only glimpse that we have of Jesus during his youth.
We will begin 2019 with a compelling sermon series, "Decisions: Burdens or Opportunities". We all face decisions in our lives:
"Where should I go to school?"
"Who should I marry?"
"Should I start a family?"
"What is my career path?"
"How do I care for my aging parents?"
"How do I handle end of life decisions?"
We will explore how to approach these, and other decisions, through the lens of God's Word.
January 6: "Making Decisions for Me" Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
January 13: "Making Decisions with Others" Proverbs 16:1-3 MSG
January 20: "Making Decisions With My Church" Matthew 28:16-20 NIV
We invite you to participate in a short survey as we prepare for our January sermon series, "Decisions: Burdens or Opportunities".
Your honest (and anonymous) input will be helpful as we prepare these upcoming sermons.

If you or someone you know, needs extra reassurance this season, I want to invite you to join us for A Blue Christmas Service: When Christmas Hurts. We will gather for worship in the sanctuary on Sunday December 16th at 6:30 p.m.
