EUMC News! (Aug 10, 2017)

I Pray!

Have you ever been stuck? In your car? In your career? In your spiritual life? Sometimes we find ourselves in a place where we just need to get "unstuck".

e are continuing with our focus on prayer this Sunday with a message titled "When I am Stuck". We will be exploring the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:16-18 and also considering the plight of a few men held in captivity in Daniel 1. What did Daniel do when he was stuck? What did Jesus do and instruct us to do when we are "stuck"?

We offer two distinct worship services on Sunday morning.

Our 9:45 am contemporary worship service includes modern Christian music led by 'midnight prayer', our amazing praise band. Our JAM (Jesus and Me) Children's Ministry also meets at 9:45 am for ages 3 years old through the fifth grade.

Our 8:30 am traditional worship service includes timeless Christian hymns; the same message is offered at both worship services.

Childcare is available during both worship services in our newly renovated and professionally staffed nursery for children ages birth through 2 years old. We invite middle school and high school age youth to join their families during the worship services on Sunday mornings.

We invite our first time guests to visit and click the "Are you a first time guest?" link near the top of the page.

See you on Sunday!

40 Days of Prayer "Prayer Triplet" Groups are now forming!

We are excited to announce the formation of over 40 prayer groups in preparation for our church wide "40 Days of Prayer" beginning

on August 20th. You are encouraged to form a group of three, a "prayer triplet", and to join us in an intentional season of prayer as we

seek to discern the unique, God given vision for Eureka UMC. If you do not have a "prayer triplet", we can help connect you to one. Please visit and open the "Join the 40 Days of Prayer" link on the front page of the website. Questions? Please contact our Prayer Team Director, Briana Doerr, at

Church Conference!

There will be a church conference on Sunday, August 20th at 11:00 am in the sanctuary. The purpose of this conference is to approve the sale of the existing parsonage and to build a new parsonage. This church conference is open to all Eureka UMC members including confirmed youth. If you have any questions about the conference, please contact our Leadership Team Chairperson, Mike Butler at

New app will be launching next week!

2015 marked the first time in history when more people accessed the internet through their smart phone rather than a desk top or lap top computer. We have had a great team, under the leadership of Lisa Koltun, developing a new app which will also be connected to an new website. Both the app and the new website are due to launch by the end of next week. These new platforms will provide easier access to all of the wonderful ways to connect, grow, and serve through the ministries at Eureka UMC.

Upcoming opportunities to Connect, Grow, or Serve through EUM

EUMC is teaming up with the Eureka Disaster Relief Committee to carry out an adult local mission service project every second Saturday of each month. Examples of projects include drywall replacement, clean up, flooring, light carpentry etc. The current mission field is rebuilding mobile homes that have been relocated to higher ground at the Laurel Acres trailer park so families can move back in. We will teach you the skills and provide tools so no experience is necessary. We accommodate all schedules and work around your schedule. Please contact Larry Baner ( or 314-753-9729) to join the team or for more information.

Be a roadie! Join the Street Team for the August 18th Concert on Central!

Street Teams are forming for the August 18th Concerts on Central!

Have you ever dreamed of being a 'roadie'? You know, travelling around the country and setting up the staging and equipment for your favorite band? Here's your chance!

Do you like meeting new people? Are you a 'natural' when it comes to interacting with people? PERFECT...there's a place for you on the street team!

The August 18th Concert on Central is fully sponsored by us, the members and friends of Eureka UMC! This is 'bridge event", simply an awesome opportunity for us to connect with the families in our community. Part of the success of this event depends on awesome volunteers like you.

Please consider how you can help make this the best Concert on Central Eureka has ever had! Our praise band, Midnight Prayer, has been busy rehearsing as the opening band for the event. And our special guest, Nashville recording artist Clayton Jones, has been in the studio recording new material for release later this year.

All volunteers for this event will receive a free, custom STREET TEAM AND "I'M WITH THE BAND" T shirt!

Guatemala Mission Trip 2018:

We are organizing a mission team to return to Guatemala, March 9-March 19, 2018. This trip is open to everyone 16 years and older. There are only 18 spots available for this mission trip and we expect this trip to be full. Please read the full description and registration instructions by clicking the "Guatemala Mission Trip" link on the front page of our website at

There is an informational meeting about this amazing mission trip on Sunday, August 13th at 11:00 am. Please contact the Guatemala Team Leader, Cathy Westbury, at for more information.

This has been another amazing week at Eureka UMC! We are hosting two teams for flood recovery efforts. Team one is with the Brethren Disaster Ministries with volunteers from Ohio and Pennsylvania. Team two is from First UMC in New Castle, Texas. Both teams have been working hard in our community to assist families affected by the floods. Both teams are also very grateful for the use of our facilities; all made possible because of your extravagant generosity to provide an amazing and functional space for these teams.

We have an increasing number of families who join us through the live stream of our 9:45 am worship service when a family vacation, work, or other obligations prevent them from joining us in person on Sunday morning. We were made aware of some video and audio quality issues last Sunday and have since updated our live stream equipment to provide an amazing experience for our online guests.

Do you have jackets or coats you no longer use? Have your kids out-grown theirs? Please save them; WoW (Women of Worship) is doing a coat drive this fall. Look for more information soon. Thank you! Renee Smola
