"A small turbine turned by the waste gases from an engine that pushes the fuel and air mixture into the engine at a higher pressure, so increasing the power produced by the engine." Cambridge Dictionary

I remember the first time I test drove my 2003 Ford F 250 with a 6.0 L turbocharged diesel engine. I was driving up a hill on US 50 near Union, Missouri and decided that it was time to make sure that this truck had both power and acceleration. I depressed the accelerator, I heard the magical sound of the turbo 'spool', and there was an explosion of power! I returned to the dealer, signed the forms, and drove that turbo diesel powered truck for nine years.

You may be asking, is this a pastor blog or a mechanic blog? Well...yes. I am going to continue to write about turbos, but a different type of turbo.

Our amazing Discipleship Pathway team has been praying, discerning, and visioning our new Discipleship Pathway since October. The team is on schedule to share this new Discipleship Pathway with the congregation in August. While there is still some work to do, there is one component that is ready to roll. I mean ready to spool! What is this component?

It is our pilot Turbo Group! Through consultation with our HCI Coach, Rev. Jon Spalding, and our Discipleship Pathway Team, we have designed and are ready to implement this critical component in just a few weeks, beginning on May 20th.

The distinguishing feature of the Turbo Group is how it equips leaders to lead small groups that develop new leaders that multiply and begin new small groups. My wife, Sherri, and I will be leading this first Turbo Group. This group includes four other couples that are not currently connected to a small group. These couples range from empty nesters to couples with young children. Our Turbo Group will meet seven times over the course of eight weeks. During this time, each Turbo Group member will be mentored and they will each serve in one of four unique roles within the group: leader, host, connecter, and the prayer leader. This group will move from house to house during the eight weeks. The goals for this Turbo Group are : life change by knowing Jesus and multiplication. At the end of eight weeks this group dissolves until the next Turbo Group is formed a few weeks later.

This is the most exciting part of the Turbo Group; each couple is expected to begin a new small group and to equip another couple or individual to do the same thing. And every member of this pilot Turbo Group is excited about this expectation! At the end of eight weeks, we will no longer be one group of ten, but rather five groups of ten each. Multiplication!

The apostle Paul encouraged this concept of  discipleship and multiplication to his mentee, Timothy, two thousand years ago, "You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others." (2 Timothy 2:2) This passage describes, in one sentence, discipleship and multiplication to the fourth generation.

This new turbo group is just one of many ways that we are living into our new Vision and fulfilling our Mission of making new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Tim

This Sunday

"Uncomfortable" Sermon Series continues this Sunday, May 12th

American culture is a culture of comfort. It is being sold to us everywhere we look. We are encouraged to do what we want, when we want, with whomever we want. If something is uncomfortable, we want to avoid it at all costs. The Christian faith, though, is just that: uncomfortable. This  six-week series will help us to embrace, understand, and to see the beauty and hope in the challenging realities of being part of God's people.

We continue this Mother's Day Sunday as we seek wisdom from Proverbs 31:28-31. Jenny Babb will be preaching on Sunday, her sermon is titled "The Uncomfortable Mom".

**This Sunday, we will be recognizing and celebrating the ministry of our amazing JAM (Jesus and Me) volunteers during both worship services.

Worship Service times are at 8:30 am and 9:45 am

JAM Children's Ministry gathers at 9:45 am (children ages 3 through the 5th grade)

Our new Family Room Worship Site gathers at 9:45 am

Childcare is available during both worship services for children birth through 2 years old.

"Uncomfortable" Sermon Series continues May 5th

How Will You Measure Your Life?

In the final class of each semester, Harvard Business School professor Clayton Christenson asks his
students how they will apply the theories of business and organizations to their own lives to
ensure that:

  • they are happy and successful in their careers

  • their relationships are an enduring source of happiness

  • they live lives of integrity

Those discussions led to his best-selling book, “How Will You Measure Your Life?” This sermon series explores this same question. Drawing from biblical wisdom, it looks at how what we choose and value has far greater impact on our lives than what we achieve and acquire.

June 16,  "By How and What You Give"

June 23,  "By Who and How You Serve"

We are excited to introduce moMENtum, our new men's ministry!

A core group of guys, headed up by our new leaders, Matt Krechel, Ryan Lewis, Casey Wood, and Todd Shelton, have been working hard to discern a new vision for this important ministry to the men in our community and our church.

All guys are invited to the moMENtum kick off event on Saturday, June 1 beginning at 9:00 am at the Krechel family property. This 288 acre property is on the banks of the Big River and includes miles of off road trails, a skeet shooting range, multiple bbq grills, and much more! This will be a fun day of shooting, riding, and eating! The property is located about 30 minutes south of  Eureka near Morse Mill.

Guys, you are welcome to bring your guns, your 4WD truck or SUV, trail bike, ATV, or side by side and your appetite! And if you don't have a gun or off road vehicle, no worries! There will be extra toys out there! There will also be plenty of clay targets and food!

Be sure to 'like' the moMENtum Facebook page to stay up to date on upcoming events and opportunities to grow in your faith and to serve others in the name of Jesus Christ!

We invite you to enjoy a meal at Raising Cane's on Sunday, May 19th, any time between 10 am and 11 pm. Simply mention that you are with Eureka United Methodist Church and they will donate 15% of the proceeds to our new Celebrate Recovery ministry! Raising Cane's is located at 15968 Manchester Road, Ellisville, MO 63011.

Pushing through isn't always easy, but we can do it if we refuse to give up when life gets hard.  To make it through the mayhem, you need perseverance!  We will be reading from Hebrews, Acts, and Matthew, and our memory verse for May is  “But those who trust in the Lord will receive new strength. They will fly as high as eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not grow weak.” Isaiah 40:31, NIRV
